APPLE VALLEY, Minn. – Carding a late birdie Tuesday, Anna Cihak posted a round of even par 70 to take the first-round lead at the 74th Minnesota Junior Girls’ State Championship at Valleywood Golf Course.

Cihak will carry a one-stroke lead over Madison Hicks and defending champion Camille Kuznik when the final round gets underway Wednesday.

Beginning the round on the 10th tee Tuesday, Cihak carded bogey on the first hole of the championship, quickly putting her over par, but she answered by converting her birdie chance at the par-4 12th. Taking a step back with bogey at the 14th, Cihak surged with birdies at the 15th and 17th to turn in 1-under.

Getting off to a slow start to her back nine, Cihak posted back-to-back bogeys at the first and second hole, but would limit the damage by sinking her birdie look at the eighth hole, finishing the first day of competition at even par 70.
