Frazier Birdies Final Hole to Win Minnesota Boys' Junior PGA Championship

  BREEZY POINT, Minn. – A birdie on the final hole Friday gave William Frazier a one-stroke victory over Benjamin Hicks at the 2018 Minnesota Junior Boys’ PGA Championship at Deacon’s Lodge Golf Course.
 
Both Frazier and Hicks will now travel to Louisville, Ky., to compete at the national tournament July 31-August 3 at Valhalla Golf Club.
 
Frazier, from Apple Valley, Minn., entered the final round two-shots off the lead Friday, but made up ground with an early birdie on his front nine before carding four birdies against two bogeys over his final nine holes to post a final-round 69 to earn the victory.
 
Hicks, of Victoria, Minn., played his front nine at even par Friday despite carding four birdies, but would heat up over his final nine holes, recording three birdies and an eagle to fall one stroke short of Frazier at 4-under par 140.
 
Jacob Pedersen, Shorewood, Minn., fired a 2-under par 70 Friday to finish in a tie for third place with Benjamin Warian, of Stillwater, Minn., at 2-under par 142.
 
First-round leader Leo Gellert, who posted a 4-under par 68 Thursday, struggled during his final round Friday at Deacon’s Lodge, carding a 7-over par 79 to finish tied for ninth at 147.
