MAINEVILLE, Ohio – Posting its best score of the weekend, the University of Minnesota women’s golf team moved up one spot from the previous round to finish 11th Sunday at the 2018 Big Ten Championship at TPC River’s Bend.

The Gophers were led by senior Sabrine Garrison who matched a season-best round of 3-under par 69 to finish seventh at 213, just six shots off the lead to wrap up the regular season.

Garrison, from Calgary, Alberta, opened the championship Friday with a round of 2-under par 70 before carding a 74 during Saturday’s second round en route to collecting her fourth career top-10 finish. Garrison’s career-best came during her freshman campaign in 2014, where she finished in a tie for third at the Minnesota Invitational.

Following round of 74 Saturday, freshman Joanne Free posted a final-round 78 Sunday to finish tied for 54th at 229, while teammate and fellow freshman Grace Kellar fired a 1-over par 73 Sunday to finish tied for 57th at 230.

Michigan State University posted a team score of 290 Sunday to earn a four-stroke victory over the University of Maryland at 5-under par 859, giving the Spartans back-to-back conference titles.

The Spartans were led by former Wayzata standout Sarah Burnham, who birdied her final hole Sunday to card a final-round 70, finishing in a tie for second place with Maryland’s Xiaolin Tian at 5-under par 211.

Ohio State University’s Jaclyn Lee earned medalist honors following a round of 73 Sunday to earn a four-stroke victory at 9-under par 207. Lee opened the championship by carding a tournament-low 6-under par 66 Friday and followed it with a 68 during the second round.

University of Nebraska sophomore and former Detroit Lakes star Kate Smith posted a 4-under par 68 during the second round Saturday to move into contention, but carded a 75 during Sunday’s final 18 holes to finish tied for 19th at 218. Smith is the only Minnesota prep golfer to earn five individual state titles (2013-17).

The NCAA will announce the 2018 tournament field April 25 at 5:30 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
