SAUK CENTRE, Minn. (Aug. 14, 2017) — Joanna Kim of Edina and River Goodmanson of Buffalo won the 2017 Warrior Cup in the 16-18 age division held today at Greystone Golf Club in Sauk Centre. An invitational only event, the 18-hole Warrior Cup features players who have previously won tournaments on the Valspar Junior Tour this summer.

This marks Kim’s second consecutive Warrior Cup title in the 16-18 age division, but she is not the most recent Kim to win the Warrior Cup. Her younger sister, Janice, won the 13-15 age division last Monday at Northfield Golf Club.

Kim fired a 2-over 74 to edge Alayna Eldred of Osakis by a single shot. Despite having two double-bogeys, she was able to bounce back each time with timely birdies. Her round was highlighted by an even-par back nine including three birdies in five holes.

Goodmanson nailed a 12-foot birdie on the first playoff hole to defeat Tyler Burkum of Maple Grove and Carter Taney of Savage. The trio finished regulation tied at even-par 72.

Goodmanson was 1-under on the front nine with back-to-back birdies on the par-5 6th and par-3 7th; and also played the par-3’s at 1-under for the day; two shots better than Taney, three shots better than Burkum.
