AUSTIN, Texas – Making his NCAA postseason debut, University of Minnesota sophomore Angus Flanagan fired an opening-round 76 Monday at University of Texas Golf Club to finish tied for 46.

Flanagan, from Woking, England, got off to a shaky start Monday by making double-bogey on his opening hole before carding three bogeys over his final eight holes on his front nine, turning in 5-over.

Bouncing back with a birdie to begin his inward nine, Flanagan found a rhythm over the last eight holes, recording one bogey to finish the first day of competition at 5-over par 76.

The University of Texas shared the lead following the first round with Pepperdine Univesity as both teams carded rounds of 6-under par 278. Longhorn Pierceson Coody fired a 5-under par 66 Monday to finish the opening round on top of the leaderboard individually.

The top five teams and low individual not among those five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.

Flanagan is scheduled to begin his second round at 9:53 a.m. Tuesday at University of Texas Golf Club.
