Halvorson Leads Lac Qui Parle Valley Girls to State Title in First Tournament Appearance

  BECKER, Minn. – Facing a seven-stroke deficit entering Wednesday’s final round of the 2018 Minnesota State High School Girls’ Class A golf tournament, Lac Qui Parle Valley carded a final round team score of 360 to earn a one-stroke victory over Fillmore Central to win its first state title in school history during its first state tournament appearance.
 
Defending team champions from BOLD High School took the early 18-hole lead by carding a team score of 347 Tuesday but struggled during the final round Wednesday, posting a tally of 379 to fall back to fourth place.
 
Lac Qui Parle Valley was led by sophomore Rachel Halvorson, who fired a 4-over par 76 Tuesday and answered with a round of 79 to finish at 155, edging Legacy Christian Academy senior Sophie Gray by one stroke.
 
Senior Abigail Stender helped the winning cause by notching at top-20 finish at 181, while Izabella Stender finished 27^th at 186.
 
A pair of top-10 finishes by Grace Miller and Madison Scheevel proved futile as Fillmore Central fell one stroke short of its second team title in school history.
