Herron and Hicks Claim Victories at MN Junior PGA Tournament of Champions

  ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Following back-to-back rounds of 71, Carson Herron survived a one-hole playoff Friday against Daniel Renner to win the 2019 Minnesota PGA Boys’ Players Tour Tournament of Champions at St. Cloud Country Club.
 
Rolling in three birdies with two bogeys during his opening round Thursday, Herron entered the final round one shot off 18-hole leader Leo Gellert.
 
Beginning the final round on the back nine Friday, Herron carded two early birdies before taking bogey at the 18^th to turn at 1-under for the round. Unable to get up-and-down for par at the par-3 third, Herron bounced back with a birdie at the fourth to post a 1-under 71 for the second consecutive round.
 
Daniel Renner, playing in the same group as Herron during the final round, posted a round of even par 72 Thursday before carding an eagle on his opening hole Friday, only to be negated by a double-bogey at the 13^th.
 
After a bogey at the third, Renner carded three birdies over his final six holes to finish 36 holes of play at 2-under 142 and into a share of the lead with Herron.
 
Renner lipped his par putt on the first playoff hole, leaving Herron with a short, two-footer for the victory.
 
Gellert posted a final-round 73 to finish in third place at 1-under 143.
 
 
Hicks Edges Vu to Win Girls’ Championship
Following an opening-round 69, Madi Hicks carded a final-round 76 Friday to earn a wire-to-wire victory, one stroke better than Vunissa Vu.
 
Hicks, of Victoria, Minn., rolled in six birdies during her opening round Thursday, helping herself a four-stroke cushion over the field. During her final round Friday, Hicks carded one birdie against five bogeys to shoot a 4-over 76, edging Vu by one stroke at 1-over 145.
 
Vu fired back-to-back rounds of 1-over 73 to finish alone in second place at 2-over 146.
