FARIBAULT, Minn. – Helped by a birdie on the second hole Wednesday, Taylor Ledwein jumped out to the only lead she would need to beat Olivia Herrick to win the 2018 Minnesota Golf Association Women’s Amateur Match Play Championship at Faribault Golf Club.

Ledwein increased her lead to three after bogeys by Herrick at the third and fifth holes, but Ledwein found trouble herself late on the front nine as her lead was trimmed to one with nine holes to play Wednesday.

Winning the 10th hole with a par, Ledwein regained a 2-up lead but would give Herrick the 12th hole with a bogey. A late bogey by Herrick once again gave Ledwein a 2-up lead and she would close out the match at the 17th with a par to win her first championship since the Minnesota Junior Girls’ State Championship in 2016.

Ledwein claimed back-to-back Class AAA individual titles during her junior and senior seasons at New Prague High School. Along with her victory at the 2015 Twin Cities Junior Championship, Ledwein qualified for the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship and the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.
