HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- Margaret Loncki won the individual medal in the Women's NCAA Division III Championships on Friday, and then a little while later she won the team title, too.

Actually, the senior from Phoenix made the 15-foot putt for par that secured the team crown for Claremont Mudd Scripps on the second hold of a playoff against Williams College. The two teams had tied with four-day totals of 1261 (93 over par) at El Campeon Golf Course, thereby making extra holes necessary.

George Fox University finished third, 11 strokes back at 1272, and that was six better than the fourth-place total of 1278 by New York University.

MIAC champ Carleton shot the third-best score of the final day, a 317, and that enabled the Knights to finish sixth, matching their highest finish at the NCAA tournament.

Loncki led by three going into Friday's round, and that was what she won by after closing with a 79. It gave her a 72-hole aggregate of 11-over 303. Navika Kuchakulla of New York U was second at 306, and Jane Hopkinson-Wood closed with a 75 to claim third at 307.

Junior Ziyi Wang was Carleton's highest finisher. Her first two rounds (79-82--161) pretty much took her out of the chase for medalist honors, but a third-round 74 elevated her into the top 10. She shot 79 on Friday and tied for seventh at 314, along with another junior, Brooke Klostermann of Wartburg.
