Maple Grove Powers its Way to First Round Lead at Boys' Preview

 
  BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – Finishing on top of Class AAA with a convincing seven-stroke victory at the state tournament last June at Bunker Hills, the Maple Grove boys already have a pair of important tournament victories to their credit this season.
 
The Crimson posted a team score of 288 to cruise to a seven-stroke victory at the Bunker Hills Invite last week, and bettered Waconia by two shots on Wednesday to claim the Wayzata Invite.
 
In the state’s strongest field ahead of the state tournament in June, Maple Grove opened Friday’s first round of the Preview, formerly the Tri-State Invite, with a team score of 304, taking a two-shot lead over Waconia to Saturday’s final round and a chance to collect its third win of the season.
 
Sophomores Josh Galvin and Weston Guili paced the Crimson Friday, as Galvin finished the opening round tied for second with a round of 74, two shots off the lead, while Guili sits three shots back following his round of 75.
 
Waconia’s Joe Adams jumped out to the early lead individually with his round of even par 72. Maple Grove will have to hold off Waconia and St. Thomas Academy, who enters Saturday’s final round three shots back, as all three teams are in search of their first win at the Preview.
 
The final round of the 2019 Preview is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. at Edinburgh USA.
