WILLMAR, Minn. – Increasing its lead slightly from the opening round, Team Minnesota maintains a firm grip on the lead through two rounds of play at the 2017 Midwest Cup at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

For the second consecutive day Justin Burleson, Joe Conzemius and Danny Anderson led the way for Minnesota as Burleson’s even par 72 Saturday puts him one shot off Kansas’ Bradley Lane’s lead at 137.

Burleson fired a 6-under par 66 to open the championship Friday with his round highlighted with a pair of eagles on his front nine.

On Saturday, Burleson got off to a shaky start by taking a triple-bogey at the fifth but managed to turn at 1-over following a pair of birdies at seven and eight. He would draw even with a birdie at the 13th, but gave back two shots with a double-bogey at the 15th.

As he did earlier in his round, Burleson rebounded by sinking a pair of late birdies to salvage an even par 72 despite playing two holes at 5-over for the day.

“I’ve been playing well—even par today with a triple and a double, so I’m 11-under through 36 holes,” Burleson said Saturday. “The course is short and tight and I’ve been hitting in straight and putting well—except two holes.”

Conzemius fired a round of 69 for the second consecutive round Saturday and will begin the final round tied with Burleson and Missouri’s Wayne Fredrick at 138, one shot off the lead.

During his round Saturday, Conzemius rolled in a pair of birdies and one bogey on his opening nine to turn at 1-under for the round before rolling in three more birdies on the back with one bogey to finish at 69.

Playing on his home course, Anderson carded a 2-over par 74 Saturday to finish tied for ninth at 142, while Matt Gorans’ round of 69 Saturday put him into a tie at 142 also, moving four players from the host state inside the top-10.

The 2017 Midwest Cup concludes Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
