DUPONT, Wash. – Minnesotan McKenzie Neisen carried a slim lead through 13 holes during the Round of 64 at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, but couldn’t hang on and was eliminated by Stani Schiavone, 1-up, Wednesday at The Home Course.

Neisen, New Prague, Minn., took an early lead with a birdie on the second hole, but Schiavone responded with a birdie on the third to even the match.

Neisen took the lead again on the fourth hole with a birdie before giving back a hole at the seventh with a double-bogey. Rolling in another birdie on the ninth hole, Neisen took another 1-up lead and would maintain the lead for the next four holes.

Schiavone, Bangor, Pa., made par on the 14th hole to even the match, and with Neisen making bogey late on the 17th hole, Schiavone made her par to take a 1-up lead. Both players would make par on the final hole and Schiavone sealed the victory, 1-up.

Neisen opened the championship Monday with a 1-over par 73 before carding a 3-under par 69 during Tuesday’s final round to qualify for match play, tied for 17th at 142.

This year’s championship will be the final chapter of the U.S. Amateur Public Links as the USGA will instead conduct a men’s and women’s four-ball championship in its place.
