PRIOR LAKE, Minn. – Behind a solid performance by junior Noah Rasinski, the Lakeville South boys golf team carded a team score of 313 Wednesday to earn a share of the 2015 Prior Lake Invitational with Eagan High School at the Wilds Golf Club.

Rasinski fired a 1-over over par 73 on a windy afternoon to claim medalist honors while teammate Max Redetzke carded a 74 to lead the Cougars as well.

“I thought I hit the ball well in the tough conditions. I had a few bad swings but I played pretty good,” Rasinski said following his round Wednesday. “I drove the ball really good—I hit 12 fairways so it’s always nice to keep the ball in play and I was hitting greens.”

“We’re returning a few guys and we all put a lot of work in this offseason, so we’ll see where we can take it,” Rasinski added.

Rasinski began his round on the fourth hole Wednesday, making four consecutive pars before taking a double-bogey at the par-5 eighth hole.

A bogey at the par-3 11th put Rasinski at 3-over for the round but he would respond with back-to-back birdies at the 16th and 17th to get to 1-over on the day.

Rasinski finished on a good note as he made another birdie at the par-5 second hole before finishing the round with a par to shoot 73.

“My two best players played really well. The wind was really tough so our third, fourth and fifth guys struggled a little bit but I’m not really worried about that since it’s our first meet,” head coach Bill Schommer said of his team’s first competition of the season.

With teams getting a much earlier start than previous years, Schommer thinks South’s work ethic will lead to some bigger things late in the season.

“These guys are very close—they don’t get too down on bad days and don’t get too high, either. Last night we had practice until five and when we got done they went to another course and practiced until eight and they do that all the time,” Schommer explained.

“I would like to think that we would contend, certainly, to get through sections, and I think we have a legitimate chance to make a little noise,” he said.

Eagan was led by senior Nick Asta, who carded a 3-over par 75 to finish fifth, while teammates Phil Johnson and Joey Dahlen each shot 78 to lead the Wildcats as well.

Edina, the defending Class AAA team champion, finished third at 317 as senior Drew Engelking paced the Hornets, shooting 6-over par 78 to finish tied for eighth.
