April 14, 2014 | 2 min.

OMAHA, Neb. – The St. Cloud State University men’s golf team captured its second consecutive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship Sunday, cruising to a 30-stroke victory at Tiburon Golf Course.

The Huskies completed the tournament Sunday with a team score of 291, the lowest round of the tournament, to finish on top at 890.

With the victory the Huskies will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Super Regional May 5-7.

The tournament is a 72-hole format in which the first 36 holes were played in October at Madden’s Resort in Brainerd, Minn. The final 36 holes were played in Omaha, Neb., but the last 18 holes were cancelled due to severe weather.

St. Cloud’s Tyler Koivisto, Cokato, Minn., earned medalist honors as he carded three consecutive rounds of 1-over par 73 to finish at 219, three strokes better than his nearest competitor Ross Miller from Minnesota State (222).

Two of Koivisto’s teammates from St. Cloud also placed in the top five. Devin Holmes and Charlie West both finished tied for third at 223.
