This year It's Herzog Cousins Playing for Resorters Title

ALEXANDRIA -- Last year, Leah Herzog lost the final in the Championship Flight of the Women's Division at the Resorters 4&3 to her sister Stephanie.

On Friday, she earned a place in this year's final with a 7&6 victory over Amanda Woodhull. And once again, she will be facing another Herzog -- but this time it will be her cousin, Maddie Herzog. Maddie was equally impressive in her semifinal victory, as she dispatched Alex Guggisberg 6&5. 

As the defending champion, Stephanie Herzog was the No. 1 seed. But she was beaten 1 up by Woodhull, the No. 8 seed, in the quarterfinal round of matches on Thursday.

Leah Herzog, the No. 5 seed, made sure that the same thing wouldn't happen to her. She dominated her semifinal match with Woodhull from the start, winning four of the first five holes. The 2019 Minnesota Ms. Golf (an award given to the top female senior golfer in the state) went 5 up by winning the seventh hole and closed out Woodhull by winning the 10th and 12th holes, as well. She never lost a hole and was 2 over par for the 12 holes she played. 

Leah, who will be a freshman at the University of Nebraska this fall, and Stephanie are from Red Wing. 

Maddie, the No. 5 seed, is from Detroit Lakes. She played on three state Class AA championship teams in high school, and had two top-10 finishes individually at the state tournament.

On Friday, her cousin won six holes on the front nine. Maddie, a soon-to-be sophomore at North Dakota State, won five. The only hole she lost was the 10th -- to Guggisberg's birdie -- but she responded by winning two of the next three holes to end the match.
