How They're Doing: Minnesotans on Pro Tour Money Lists -- April 22
April 22, 2024
ST. PAUL -- Briana Mao completed a productive week in Minnesota on Friday, when she shot a 1-under-par 71 at Keller GC and earned co-medalist honors in the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Qualifying.
Three days earlier, Mao, who lives in California and plays golf for the University of Virginia, got the only available spot in the U.S. Women's Open Qualifying at Wayzata Country Club.
The other co-medalist at Keller was Kim Kaufman. She and Mao had both played in the Women's NCAA Division I Championships the previous week. Kaufman, who plays for Texas Tech, tied for eighth place. Mao tied for 38th, which helped Virginia claim fourth place in the team competition.
Another college player who qualified on Friday was Lindsay Danielson, the four-time Wisconsin state high school champion who recently concluded her sophomore year at the University of Wisconsin. She shot 73.
Also moving on to the U.S. APL, which will be played at Neshanic Valley GC in New Jersey (June 18-23), is Wayzata sophomore Sarah Burnham, who still has some unfinished business to attend to before the high school season concludes. Earlier in the week, she posted a 36-hole total of 148 and won the Section 6AAA Tournament. In the process, she led the defending state champion Trojans to the section team title.
So before she heads for New Jersey, Burnham will be at Bunker Hills to play in the Class AAA portion of the Minnesota state high school tournament. Last year, when she was a freshman, she finished fifth.
Two more college players are the alternates. Augustana's Sarah Roering, the former Minnesota state high school champ from Minnewaska, is the first alternate, after a 76, and Alanna Gerber of Oakland University (Michigan) claimed the second alternate spot with a 77.
