Minnesota 6th as a Team in Auto Trader Classic; Trasamar Is Tied for 11th

DULUTH, Ga. -- Harold Varner of East Carolina birdied all four of the par-5's at Berkeley Hills Country Club on Monday in the second round of the Auto Trader Classic, and his closing birdie at the 573-yard seventh hole (he started at the eighth) gave him a 4-under-par 68 and one-stroke lead over Chattanooga's Stephen Jaeger.

Varner has an overall score of 139 going into Tuesday's final round. Jaeger matched the second-round 68 and is at 140.

North Florida leads the team competition with a combined 575 for 36 holes. Chattanooga is in second place in a field of 12 teams, three behind with a 578.

Minnesota is another 13 back, in sixth place, at 591.

The Gophers' Jon Trasamar had worked his way into the top five midway through his second round, but three consecutive bogeys at No. 17, 18 and 1 knocked hiim out of the top 10. He bounced back with a birdie at the 505-yard, par-5 third (he started at the sixth hole) and finished with a 72, which put the junior from Blue Earth at 145, tied for 11th.

His teammate Erik Van Rooyen birdied three of the par-3's and three of the par-5's in Round 2. However, he played the par-4's in 5 over (three bogeys and a double) on his way to a 71, and he's tied for 19th at 147.
