Lowenstein Wins PGA Junior Match Play Title
MORTON -- Tyler Lowenstein might have won the state Class AAA high school championship if his putter hadn't turned cold on him in the second round. As a result, the Wayzata junior wound up tied for second place. The Minnesota PGA Junior Match Play Championship this week was a different matter. Lowenstein was 6 for 6 and emerged from the 64-man field the winner. He secured the title on Friday afternoon with a 2-up victory over Bloomington Jefferson's Nicholas Nielsen (who, like Lowenstein, will begin his senior year in a few weeks) in the final. Earlier in the day, in the semifinals, Lowenstein defeated Karter Smith, a Detroit Lakes sophomore to be, 1 up. Nielsen made it to the final by virtue of a 2&1 victory over Waconia's soon-to-be-a-senior Matthew Rachey.
