The Minnesota Golf Association is a volunteer-based organization that provides services to thousands of golfers and hundreds of golf clubs throughout the state of Minnesota. The volunteers of the MGA serve golf in four general categories: (1) Tournament Administration, (2) Junior Golf, (3) Association Governance and (4) Ambassadors (community service). Tournament Volunteers help administer over 75 days of competition each year, including 17 state-level championships, 20 MGA qualifying events and 8 USGA qualifying events. The Minnesota Golf Association is proud to have some of the finest tournament volunteers in the nation. Individuals are designated, based upon their experience, as Certified Rules Officials, Rules Officials or Tournament Volunteers. At each event, there is a Tournament Chair (either the Lead Staff person or Site Captain) who is responsible for the overall administration of the event, including course set-up and coordination of other Committee Members. Certified Rules Officials are highly experienced in officiating and are highly knowledgeable in the Rules of Golf. Rules Officials are individuals who are knowledgeable in the Rules of Golf and have experience officiating. Tournament Volunteers assist as marshals, spotters, pace-of-play officials, and help with scoring and other duties as directed by the Chair. Junior Golf Volunteers are an integral part to the overall success of the MGA Junior Program and help to grow the game for the future. A Junior Golf Volunteer may serve as a Club Chair, Host Site Chair, District or Regional Site Captain or assist in some other capacity, such as a marshal, spotter or as a volunteer at the MGA Junior Team Championship.
