Johnson Wins Individual Title, and NDSU Wins the Team at Torrey Pines
March 27, 2024
NISSWA, Minn. – A bogey-free round of 4-under par 68 Monday gave Brent Snyder the first-round lead at the 87th Minnesota PGA Professional Championship at The Pines at Grand View Lodge, looking for his second title since 2013.
Snyder carded two birdies on his front nine and added two more over the final nine holes Monday and will take a three-shot advantage to the final round over Scott Cole, John Cleary, Don Berry and Eric Rolland.
“Bogey-free is always good,” Snyder said Monday. “In an event like this, you want to keep the ball in front of you and just make the sensible play. There is a lot of golf to be played, but I was fortunate enough to be able to control the golf ball well today.”
Playing on a familiar course, Snyder earned a five-stroke victory at the Grand View Lodge Challenge in late June at both the Pines and Preserve courses.
In 2013 Snyder fired a final-round 69 at the Bobby’s Legacy Course to earn a two-stroke victory on his way to the section’s Player of the Year honors. This season Snyder has notched four victories and eight top-5 finishes in 16 events, earning nearly $14,000 in winnings.
The final round of the 2017 Minnesota PGA Professional Championship is slated to begin at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday at The Pines.
