Johnson Wins Individual Title, and NDSU Wins the Team at Torrey Pines

COON RAPIDS, Minn. – Janice Kim fired a 1-under par 71 to take a one-stroke lead to begin the 2017 Minnesota Section Girls’ Junior PGA Championship Thursday at Bunker Hills Golf Club.
Kim will enter Friday’s final round with a slim advantage over Leah Herzog, who carded an even par 72 Thursday, while Megan Welch and Sophia Yoemans sit three shots back after both shot 2-over par 74 during the opening round.
Rolling in birdie on the opening hole Thursday, Kim quickly fell below par but gave back a stroke on the ensuing hole with a bogey. She would turn at 1-under following a birdie at the par-3 eighth.
Converting birdie at the par-5 14th, Kim went to 2-under but would finish the day at 71 after a bogey on the final hole.
The winner of the 36-hole event will earn an invitation to the national championship July 18-21 at the Country Club of St. Albans in St. Albans, Mo.
The final round of the 2017 Girls’ Junior PGA Championship is scheduled to begin at 6:56 a.m. at Bunker Hills Golf Club.
