A Sixth-Place Finish in Florida for Gopher Women to Begin Spring Season

  TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Minnesota women’s golf team held steady in fourth place through 36 holes of the 2017 Seminole Match Up before posting a final round team score of 300 Sunday to drop two spots and finish sixth to begin the 2016-17 spring season.

The Gophers were led by senior Emie Peronnin who finished the tournament with back-to-back rounds of even par 72 to notch a top-20 finish by placing in a tie for 17th at 1-over par 217.

“Very excited about our start to the spring and happy to see lots of improvements from the fall,” Gophers head coach Michele Redman said Sunday. “Also, helps us figure out where we need to focus our practices.”

Junior Sabrine Garrison saved her best round of the championship for the final round Sunday, shooting even par to finish tied for 22nd at 3-over par 217.

Host school Florida State University cruised to a 10-stroke victory over the University of South Carolina as Seminole Morgane Metraux earned medalist honors by shooting 11-under par 205.

Minnesota sophomore Muyu Wu entered the final round tied for 11th following her rounds of 71 and 72 to open the championship before getting disqualified Sunday for signing an incorrect scorecard.

Former Wayzata High School standout and two-time Minnesota Golf Association Women’s Player of the Year, Sarah Burnham, posted her best round of the tournament Sunday, carding a 69 to finish tied for 19th at 2-over par 218.

The Gopher women return to action February 27-March 1 at the Hurricane Invitational at the Biltmore Golf Club in Coral Gables, Fla.
