Anderson, Nelko and VanArragon Lead After Day One of Minnesota State Junior Boys'

  WINONA, Minn. – Matt Armstrong, Caleb VanArragon and Tristan Nelko each fired rounds of 3-under par 68 Monday to earn a share of the lead following the first round of play at the 92^nd Minnesota State Junior Boys’ Championship at The Bridges.
 
The three will begin Tuesday’s final round one shot better than Joshua Galvin on a crowded leaderboard that finds the top-20 players separated by only four shots.
 
Armstrong played his opening nine at 1-under par despite carding four birdies before moving to 3-under with back-to-back birdies at the 12^th and 13^th holes. Converting his birdie look at the 16^th, Armstrong looked to pull away from the field, but took a step back with a bogey on the final hole to shoot 68.
 
VanArragon, who finished tied for 25^th at the Class AAA tournament last month, began his round with three consecutive birdies before a bogey at the fourth slowed his momentum. Taking a second bogey at the 11^th, VanArragon fell back to 1-under, but would finish strong by rolling in a pair of birdies late to finish in a tie on top of the leaderboard.
 
Nelko, who earned medalist honors at the Class AAA championship at Bunker Hills last month, played a steady front nine with a birdie and one bogey before rolling in three birdies over his final nine holes Monday to finish the opening round tied for the lead.
 
The final round of the 92^nd Minnesota State Junior Boys’ Championship is slated to begin at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at The Bridges.
