MGA ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL GOLF DAY MINNESOTA

HASTINGS, Minn. – Molly Baker tallied 36 points during her opening round Sunday and carried a six-point margin to the final round Monday, but would need a playoff to defeat Jean Solheim to claim the 2019 MGA Women’s Net Amateur Championship.
"I played well on the first day and not so much on the second. The net Stableford scoring is really the great equalizer. It rewards good golf at all handicaps," Baker said. "My playing partner on the second day was my dear friend Jean Solheim, who played like a rock star. When we got off the course and discovered we were tied, I wasn't surprised because she played so well.
"Jean was a little nervous playing in her first playoff and let her guard down, so I was able to sneak in a par and win."
Baker collected 15 points during her final nine Monday, but watched as Solheim earned 20 points during her final nine holes to quickly trim Baker’s lead.
Monday’s win is the first state championship for Baker, who has also notched six top-10 finishes since 2007.
