Barth, Burton, Pendley and Tieman Come From Behind, Claim MGA Net Team in Playoff

  NISSWA, Minn. – Posting a combined team score of 132 Wednesday, the foursome of Glenn Barth, Richard Burton, Kevin Pendley and Bob Tieman erased a 13-stroke deficit to finish in a three-way tie for the lead before winning a scorecard playoff to claim the 26^th Minnesota Golf Association Net Team Championship at The Pines at Grand View Lodge.
 
The team of Ken Basten, Steve Bloom, Sean Keegan and Marty Mangold paced the field during the first round of play Tuesday at The Preserve Golf Course, shooting a 16-under par 128 to take a four-stroke lead to the final round when the tournament shifted courses.
 
Basten, Bloom, Keegan and Mangold struggled during the final round Wednesday, combining for a team score of 1-over par 145 to finish tied for the lead along with Barth, Burton, Pendley and Tieman as well as the foursome of Steve Lindstrom, Bob Rapp, Doug Rechtzigel and Joe Vandenheuvel at 15-under par 243.
 
Pendley and Barth led the way for the winning team during Tuesday’s opening round, shooting rounds of 82 and 84, respectively, before Pendley again contributed with a round of 80 during Wednesday’s second round at the Preserve, shooting an 8-over 80. Burton’s round of 84 helped the foursome finish with a share of the lead before claiming the victory in a scorecard playoff.
 
The team of Daniel Hanson, John McEnroe, Scott Thompson and Roger Weber fired a 36-hole total of 13-under par 275 Wednesday to finish in a share of fourth place with the foursome of T. Bailey, Derek Brant, Rob Dubel and David Trushenski.
