Boys From Heritage Links Lead MGA Junior Team Championship; Filipiak, Olson and Rogers Lead Girls

  GLENWOOD, Minn. – Carding a team score of 4-over par 220 Monday at Minnewaska Golf Club, the foursome from Heritage Links Golf Club took the early lead to begin the 56th Minnesota Golf Association Junior Team Championship.

The foursome, comprised of Tanner Sperling, Matt Mills, Noah Rasinski and William Moore, will take a six-shot advantage over the team from Detroit Country Club heading to Tuesday’s final round.

Heritage Links, in search of its second win in three years, was led by Rasinski’s 2-under par 70, while Sperling and Moore each carded rounds of 3-over par 75. Mills wasn’t far behind Monday, shooting 76.

Ryan Paskey’s 2-over par 74 Monday helped the team from Detroit Country Club to second place following the opening round, while Ben Uruh contributed with a 75. Wyatt Blomseth also helped the cause by shooting 77.

Spencer Crowley (Indian Hills Golf Club), Riley Stegeman (Prestwick Golf Club), Jack Richardson and Vann Hartigan (Tanners Brook Golf Club) combined for a 12-over par 228 Monday to sit in third place and will need to make up eight shots to reach the leaders from Heritage Links.

The host team from Minnewaska Golf Club finished Monday’s opening round in fourth place, shooting 14-over par 230, 10 shots off the lead.

GIRLS DIVISION
The threesome of Ally Rogers, Alexa Filipiak and Erica Olson combined for a 16-over par 160 Monday to take a sizable seven-shot lead in the Girls’ Division Monday at Minnewaska Golf Club.

Filipiak, of Elk River Golf Club, led the way as she carded a 78 Monday, while Olson,  and Rogers, both from TPC Twin Cities, carded rounds of 82 and 84, respectively.

Sisters Amelia Simonds and Alayna Simonds, of the Minikahda Club, paired up with fellow siblings Claudia Kim and Cayla Kim, Oak Marsh Golf Club, to shoot a 167 during the opening round Monday and will begin Tuesday’s final round seven shots off the lead.

The 56th MGA Junior Team Championship continues Tuesday as final-round tee times are set to begin at 7:30 a.m. at Minnewaska Golf Club.
