Burnham 72 Holes Away From Earning LPGA Tour Card

PINEHURST, N.C. – Carding her best round of the week Sunday, Minnesotan Sarah Burnham’s 2-under 70 moved her inside the top-30 through four rounds at the 2018 LPGA Qualifying Series at Pinehurst No. 6.

With 12 rounds of qualifying already behind her, another 72 holes separates Burnham from membership to the LPGA Tour as the top-45 players and ties earn cards for the 2019 season when play shifts to Pinehurst No. 7 for the final four rounds beginning Wednesday.

Burnham got off to a slow start to the week, posting rounds of 77 and 74, respectively, before bouncing back with a 1-under 71 during the third round Saturday. Burnham carded a pair of bogeys over her first seven holes, but would finish with three birdies over her remaining 11 holes to climb inside the top-50.

On Sunday, Burnham bogeyed the par-5 sixth hole to drop back to 7-over for the tournament, but battled once again by rolling in birdies at the seventh and ninth holes to move back to 5-over. A final birdie at the par-5 10th would put Burnham at 4-over and she would card a final-round 70 and now sits tied for 28th at 292 with four rounds yet to play.

Burnham, a prep standout from Maple Grove, Minn., who went on to collect three collegiate victories while at Michigan State University, was one of three Minnesotans to advance from Stage I in Palm Desert, Calif., in August before she posted a 9-under par 279 to finish third at Stage II at The Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla., last week.
