ANDOVER, Minn. – A birdie on his final hole helped Leif Carlson shoot 3-under par 69 Wednesday at Majestic Oaks Golf Club, edging Patrick Muellerleile to win his second Twin Cities Senior Championship.

Carlson jumped out to the early lead by carding two birdies over his first three holes before taking bogey at the par-3 fourth. He would remain at 1-under for the championship over the next eight holes, carding consecutive pars.

A pair of birdies at the 13th and 15th holes put Carlson at 3-under for the championship, but he took a step back late with a bogey at the par-5 16th. Rebounding with a birdie on the final hole, Carlson earned a one-shot victory by shooting 3-under par 69.

Carlson claimed the 2012 title at Bunker Hills Golf Club, where championship had previously been played since 2003.

Muellerleile rolled in two birdies over his first five holes Wednesday to get to 2-under before giving back a stroke with bogey at the sixth. He rebounded to put a birdie on the scorecard at the seventh to turn at 2-under.

Converting his birdie chance at the 11th, Muellerleile moved to 3-under but slipped up at the par-4 14th and would make par on his remaining four holes to shoot 2-under par 70, one shot back of Carlson.

John Juntilla, Bill Tadewald and Tom Nordstrom finished in a tie for third place after all three fired rounds of even par 72.

Skip Schultz successfully defended his title in the Masters Division by firing a 4-under par 68 to earn a five-stroke victory over Patrick Vincelli.

Schultz began his round on the 10th tee and birdied his opening hole before drawing even with a bogey at the par-3 15th. Turning at even par, Schultz rolled in birdies early and often on his back nine, shooting 4-under over the final nine to cruise to a repeat victory.

A birdie at the 17th helped Vincelli recover from a string of bogeys to begin his final nine Wednesday to shoot 1-over par 73 to notch a second-place finish.

Tom Smith’s 4-over par 76 earned him a third-place finish, while Ron Vincelli carded a 5-over par 77 to finish fourth for the championship.
