ROCKVILLE, Md. (August 6, 2020) – Kate Smith, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and the sole Minnesotan in the field, carded 72-73—145, 1-over par, to tie for 14th place in the stroke-play qualifying portion of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, Aug. 3 and 5, at the Woodmont Country Club, Rockville, Md. The second day of stroke play was postponed due to Tropical Storm Isaias, which brought damaging wind gusts, flash flooding and tornadoes to parts of Maryland and the Washington, D.C., area. Smith finished 5 shots back of medalist Rachel Heck, of Memphis, Tenn., who shot 69-71—140 (-4).
Smith meets Louise Yu, of Duluth, Ga., in the round of 64 today at 12:50 p.m. (EDT).
