St. Kate's Wins MIAC Women's Championship; Venne Claims Individual Title

PEQUOT LAKES, Minn. – Carrying a two-point lead into Wednesday’s final round at The Preserve at Grand View Lodge, the foursome of Eric Deutsch, Pat Deutsch, Tim Deutsch and Opie Williams carded a pair of late eagles to cruise to a nine-point victory at the 32nd Minnesota Golf Association Net Team Championship.
The Deutsches and Williams tallied 82 Stableford points during Tuesday’s opening round at The Pines at Grand View Lodge before closing out the championship with a total of 161 points to collect their second win at the championship since 2019.
Pat Deutsch led the way by earning 33 points during his opening round in the Net 2-of-4 Best Ball format, and finishing with 35 points over his final 18 holes.
Eric Deutsch, winner of the 2004 MGA Amateur Championship at Northland Country Club, carded 35 Stableford points during his opening round, and followed it by earning 32 points over his final round.
The foursome of Craig Kochsiek, Gary Lippo and Mike and Patrick Quinn tallied 73 points on the final day to finish in second place with 152 points.
Kochsiek carded a net 75 during his final round Wednesday to earn medalist honors in the MGA Net Amateur Championship, claiming a one-point victory over Mark Forsberg with a total of 64 Stableford points.
Following a net 77 Tuesday at The Pines, Kochsiek got help during his second round with a pair of early birdies to card 18 points during his first nine holes at The Preserve.
He would go on to card 15 points over his last nine holes to edge Forsberg by one point with a total of 33 points during the final round.
Opening the championship with an eight-point advantage following her opening round of 38 points Tuesday at The Pines, Sandra Lemke tallied a score of 26 points on the final day to claim a four-point victory over Shelly Kasperek and defending champion Joan Frie with 64 points.
Lemke was helped by six birdies on her card during Tuesday’s opening round at The Pines, posting an opening-round net 70.
Bouncing back from an early triple-bogey, Lemke carded two net birdies during her opening nine holes, collecting 14 Stableford points before two birdies during her final nine holes earned her 12 points to finish four points clear of the field and earn medalist honors.
Lemke finished fourth at the championship a year ago. Kasperek finished in second following a scorecard playoff, while Frie earned a third-place finish.
