Gopher Women Place 13th to Wrap Up Fall Season in Las Vegas

 
 
  BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The University of Minnesota women’s golf team posted its best score of the 2018 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown during Tuesday’s final round, carding a combined score of 291 to move up three spots on the final day to finish 13^th to conclude the fall season at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
 
Oregon State University earned a wire-to-wire victory Tuesday, firing a team score of 280 to finish at 838, four strokes better than second-place University of Tulsa.
 
Tulsa freshman Lorena Tseng fired a tournament-best 7-under par 65 during Tuesday’s final round to earn a two-stroke victory over Fresno State University’s Brigitte Thibault at 13-under par 203.
 
The Gophers were led by their trio of sophomores Grace Kellar, Kate Lillie and Joanne Free, who all placed tied for 36^th at 3-over 219.
 
Kellar, from Edina, Minn., opened the championship with her best round of the week, posting a 1-under par 71 before slipping during the second round by posting a 3-over par 75. She would improve during Tuesday’s final round by carding a 73.
 
Lillie, of St. Charles, Ill., got off to a slow start by carding a 4-over par 76 during the opening round Sunday before bouncing back with a round of 71 Monday. She would card an even par 72 Tuesday to jump into a tie for 36^th.
 
Free, from Gullane, Scotland, also got off to a slow start during the opening round Sunday, shooting 5-over par 77 before rebounding with a 73 during Monday’s second round. Posting her career-best round of 69 during the final round, Free jumped up the leaderboard into a tie for 36^th.
 
The Gopher Women open the spring season Feb. 17-19, 2019 at the Moon Golf Invitational at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.
