How They're Doing: Minnesotans on Pro Tour Money Lists -- April 22
April 22, 2024
Nick Heinen, a former two-time Resorters champion from Edmond, Okla., shot a 1-over-par 73 on Friday at Lantana Golf Club in Lantana, Texas, and made it through the Pre-Qualifying Stage of Web.com Tour Q-School. He concluded 54 holes with a total of 216, tying for 31st place and advancing to the First Stage of Q-School with one stroke to spare. The top 36 and ties moved on. The First Stage (of three) will be played at various sites, beginning Sept. 25.
Heinen was a member of Oklahoma State's 2018 NCAA championship team, although he didn't play in the NCAA tournament. Each team has five players, and he was No. 6 in scoring average for the Cowboys.
He was a regular at the Resorters for most of this decade, winning the Junior Division twice, finishing second twice in the Championship Division, and then winning it twice, in 2015 and 2016, before surrendering the crown in 2017. He turned professional after completing his college eligibility this spring, and didn't play in the Resorters this year.
Isaac Merry of Las Cruces, N.M., was the medalist at Lantana GC. He posted a 67 on Friday for an aggregate of 200 (16 under). But the player who got the most attention was Tony Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, now an NFL announcer. He squeaked through, tying for 36th with a 218 (72-72-74).
In another Pre-Qualifying tournament, at Lincoln, Neb., Ross Miller, this year's Tapemark Charity Pro-Am champion (and State Open runner-up), bounced back from a second-round 78 at Wilderness Ridge (par 71) with a 72 on Friday, but he missed the number by four with a 224. That put him in a tie for 46th. Only the top 39 and ties advanced from Lincoln.
