JORDAN, Minn. – Shortened to a nine-hole final round Wednesday, the Holy Family Catholic boys golf team carded a 3-under 141 to cruise to a 16-stroke victory at the 2024 Minnesota State High School League Class AA Championship, for its third team title in five seasons.
The Fire were led by senior P.J. Herron, who opened the championship with a 1-under 71 Tuesday before a pair of late birdies lifted Herron to a round of 1-under 35 to place second at 2-under 106.
Senior Tully Super contributed by posting a round of even par 36 Wednesday to finish tied for 11th, while teammates Ryder Carlson and Mick Herron both placed tied for 14th to help Holy Family to a third team title in eight appearances at the season finale.
Detroit Lakes posted a team score of 150 on the final day to remain one spot behind Holy Family, while Totino-Grace moved up two positions during Wednesday’s final round to place third.
Starting his round with an eagle on the opening hole moved 18-hole co-leader Jack Justesen to 4-under for the championship, but he would give back two strokes with back-to-back bogeys at the fourth and fifth holes.
Grinding down the stretch, Justesen carded birdie at the par-5 seventh to post a final-round 35 to edge P.J. Herron by one stroke at 3-under 105.
Staples-Motley junior Carter White followed his opening-round 72 with an even par 36 during Wednesday’s final round, carding two birdies over his final two holes to move him into third place.
