It Will Be a Monday Finish for U.S. Women's Open

HOUSTON, Texas -- The 75th U.S. Women's Open will have a Monday finish. Play was suspended because of heavy rain at 9:10 a.m. Central Standard Time on Sunday. Six groups had yet to tee off for their final round.

That includes the leaders. Hinako Shibuno, the 22-year-old Japanese Tour player who won the British Women's Open in 2019, is one stroke ahead of Amy Olson after 54 holes. Olson was one of only three players who matched the par of 71 Saturday on the Cypress Creek course at the Champions Club, and she gained three shots on Shibuno, whose third-round 74 put her at 209.

Ji Yeong2 Kim was one of only two players to break par. After making three birdies on her final three holes Friday just to make the cut on the number (145), Kim shot 67 on Saturday. That was the low score of the day by three strokes and elevated her from an 18-way tie for 48th into a tie for third, along with Moriya Jutanugarn. They are two behind Olson at 212.

The weather that caused the suspension of play Sunday is expected to be gone by Monday. It is also predicted, however, that the temperature will drop, and there will be strong, gusty winds from the North.
