JORDAN, Minn. – The girls golf team from Lake City High School entered Wednesday’s final round of the 2022 Minnesota State High School Girls’ Class AA Tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek with a 27-stroke victory, and despite weather shortening the round to just nine holes, the Tigers successfully defended its team title with a 39-stroke victory over Fergus Falls.

Sophomore Ella Matzke led the charge for the Lake City girls for a second consecutive day, bouncing back from three early bogeys with a birdie at the par-3 15th to secure a second-place finish at 9-over 117. Junior Emma Berge fired a 3-over 39 during Wednesday’s final round to finish tied for 11th at 123 with sophomore teammate Jordan Windhorst-Knudsen.

Posting a 4-over 76 in challenging conditions during the opening round Tuesday gave defending individual champion Mallory Belka a two-stroke advantage.

The Perham senior closed out her high school career with a 2-over 38 during Wednesday’s shortened round to successfully defend her Class AA title.

Pequot Lakes High School and the girls from Minnewaska each posted final-round tallies of 173 to finish third and fourth, respectively.
