JORDAN, Minn. – Expanding on its 16-stroke lead from the opening round Tuesday, the Lake City High School girls golf team cruised to the program’s first team title with a 44-shot victory in the girls’ Class AA state championship Wednesday at Ridges at Sand Creek.
The girls from Providence Academy posted a final-round team score of 352 to finish in second at 717, while Fergus Falls High School placed third at 727.
The Tigers were led by freshman Jordana Windhorst-Knudsen, who fired a final-round 82 Wednesday to finish in second place at 13-over 157. Fellow freshman Ella Matzke contributed by shooting 168 to finish inside the top-10, while senior Molly Kennedy placed tied for 17th at 173.
Perham High School junior Mallory Belka cruised to a nine-shot victory during the individual competition Wednesday, shooting rounds of 73-75, respectively.
Providence Academy sophomore Grace Petzold finished third Wednesday thanks to her final-round 76, 10 shots off the lead at 158. Minnewaska senior followed her 79 during the opening round with an 82 Wednesday to finish fourth at 161.
