LAKE CITY, Minn. – Wrapping up her freshman season by setting a new tournament record to earn medalist honors at the 2019 Minnesota State High School Class AAA Championship last week at Bunker Hills Golf Club, Isabella McCauley began her summer this week in spectacular fashion.

On Tuesday, McCauley posted an even par 72 at The Links at Northfork, carding two birdies on her front nine against two bogeys on the back to finish one shot off Leah Herzog’s lead to earn the second qualifying spot for the 2019 U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship next month at Sentryworld in Stevens Point, Wis.

The following day McCauley fired a round of 1-under 71 at The Jewel Golf Club to take a three-stroke lead to begin the 2019 Minnesota Girls’ Junior PGA Championship, and followed it by carding an even par 71 Thursday, earning medalist honors and a spot in the national tournament July 9-12 at Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, Conn.

McCauley will be joined by Red Wing’s Sophia Yoemans who posted a 2-over 73 during the opening round Wednesday before shooting 1-under 70 during the final round Thursday, fending off high school teammate Herzog, who posted the low round of the tournament during the final round, to earn the final qualifying spot by shooting 1-under 143.

During her final round Thursday, McCauley birdied the opening hole, but would card three bogeys over her final four holes of the front nine to turn in 2-over for the round. Regaining her footing during her final nine holes, McCauley’s birdies at the 12th and 16th holes put her comfortably in the lead to earn a three-stroke victory at 1-under 141.

Yoemans capped off her high school career by capturing her third consecutive individual title, shooting back-to-back rounds of 69 last week at Ridges at Sand Creek to claim a seven-stroke victory over Herzog.

Carding a pair of quick birdies on the first two holes Thursday, Yoemans narrowed McCauley’s lead before Yoemans made a pair of bogeys at the fourth and seventh holes to fall back to even par for the round. Falling to 3-over for the tournament with a bogey at the 12th, Yoemans finished strong with a pair of late birdies to shoot a final-round 70, finishing at 1-over 143.
