Petry Leads at Class A; Fertile-Beltrami and Sleepy Eye United Tied After 18 Holes

 BECKER, Minn. – The Fertile-Beltrami High School boys’ golf team posted a team score of 321 Monday to earn a share of the first-round lead with Sleepy Eye United to begin the 2021 Minnesota State Boys’ Class A Championship at Pebble Creek Golf Club.
 
Junior Rylin Petry fired a 2-under 70 Tuesday to pace the field and help Fertile-Beltrami climb the leaderboard during the opening round. Petry played his first 15 holes in even par Tuesday, but birdied two of his final three holes to finish as the only player below par.
 
The Falcons also got help from Ethan Finseth, who carded a 6-over 78 to finish the first round tied for 14^th. Teammate Masen Nowacki posted a 9-over 81 and will begin Wednesday’s final round in a tie for 21^st.
 
Sleepy Eye United was led by sophomore Carson Erickson, who fired a 2-over 74 Monday to finish in a tie for second, and senior Toby Weiss, who carded a 7-over 79 to finish tied for 16.
 
Brett Reid, currently the second-ranked player in the state, fired a 2-over par 74 to finish the first round in a five-way share of second with Warroad’s Carson Erickson, New Life Academy’s Cole Witherow, United South Central’s Kadyn Neubauer and Legacy Christian Academy’s Trent Harrison.
 
Legacy Christian Academy will begin the final round only two shots off the lead in third place.
 
The final round of the 2021 Minnesota State Boys’ Class A Championship gets underway at noon Thursday at Pebble Creek Golf Club.
