April 22, 2024
LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Breaking a course record at the recently opened Royal Golf Club Wednesday, University of California, Los Angeles sophomore Patty Tavatanakit posted a final-round 63 to earn top individual honors, while the University of Alabama came from behind to claim the team championship at the 2018 ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M.
Tavatanakit entered the final round in ninth place and carded an unassuming 1-under par during her opening nine with a pair of birdies against one bogey before sinking six birdies and an eagle over the final nine to shoot 13-under par 203, earning a one-stroke victory over the University of Southern California’s Nalia Nam.
The country’s top-ranked team, the Crimson Tide, flexed its collective muscle during Wednesday’s final round, erasing a two-stroke deficit to claim the team victory over UCLA by two strokes.
The University of Minnesota posted a final round 297 Wednesday to finish in 12th place at 894. For the second straight week, the Gophers were led by sophomore Grace Kellar who carded a final-round 76 to finish tied for 40th at 221.
Kellar, of Edina, Minn., is coming off of her best collegiate performance at the Minnesota Invitational to open the 2018-19 season with a third-place finish.
Senior Muyu Wu fired back-to-back rounds of 73 during the second and final rounds to finish tied for 47th at 223, while sophomore Joanne Free finished 52nd thanks to a round of 2-over par 74, her best round of the championship.
