U of M Golfer Rasinski Leads After 18 Holes at MPGA State Public Links at The Jewel

August 18, 2019

LAKE CITY, Minn. – A late eagle helped University of Minnesota golfer Noah Rasinski to a round of 2-under 69, as well as the early lead at the 95th Minnesota Public Golf Association Public Links Championship Saturday at The Jewel Golf Club.
Rasinski, a soon-to-be senior for the Gophers this fall, will begin Sunday’s final round with a two-stroke advantage over Justin Burleson and 2006 champion Trent Peterson.
A native of Lakeville, Minn., Rasinski carded birdie at the par-4 sixth hole Saturday before taking bogey at the par-4 ninth to turn in even par for the opening round. Bouncing back with a birdie at the 10th, Rasinski moved back into red figures before an eagle at the 16th put him at 3-under for the round.
Carding bogey on the final hole, Rasinski finished the opening round of play at 2-under 69 and two shots clear of the field ahead of Sunday’s final 18 holes.
Rasinski is in search of his first state victory since the 2016 Minnesota Golf Association Junior Team Championship, and first individual title since claiming the 2015 MPGA Junior Public Links Championship at Emerald Greens Golf Club.
Matt Armstrong played his opening nine in 4-over despite taking a quadruple-bogey at the par-5 eighth hole before playing his final nine holes in 3-under to post a 1-over 72, finishing the opening round of competition three shots off the lead in a tie for fourth with 2014 Minnesota Golf Association Amateur champion Jesse Bull.
The final round of the 95th MPGA State Public Links Championship is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at The Jewel Golf Club.
