LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Augustana College sat in fifth place after the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Super Regional golf tournament but came roaring back Monday, posting a 308 team score to jump into second place at Tartan Park Golf Course.

Augustana trails Central Oklahoma University by 15 strokes heading into the final round Tuesday.

The Vikings got a big contribution from senior Allie Ostrander who carded a 2-over par 74 for the second straight day to sit tied for second individually at 148, four strokes behind the leader.

“It was a bit less windy today but I thought the conditions were great,” Ostrander said following her second round. “It was a lot better weather than we’ve been playing in, but I thought the pins were a little tougher today so it played a bit tougher today.”

Ostrander, Glenwood, Minn., had two bogeys on her scorecard on the front nine to make the turn at 1-over and continued her consistent play on the back as she made bogey on the tenth to move to 2-over.

She dropped to 1-over with a birdie on the 15th hole before going making bogey again at the 16th. With two pars to finish her round, Ostrander moved up into a tie for second place after starting the day tied for fifth.

“I’ve been getting off the tee—I think it’s key to hit fairways here and I’ve been hitting greens,” Ostrander said. “I’ve mostly been two-putting for par a making some birdies here and there.”

Sophomore Marisa Toivonen turned in a strong performance for Augustana as well. Toivonen (Red Wing, Minn.) started the round tied for 26th, but shot a 4-over par 76 Monday to jump into the top 15 heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Concordia University, St. Paul carded a 323 for the second straight day and sits in seventh place with one round to play.

Concordia was led by sophomore Rachel Gray who carded a 1-over par 73 Monday to leap into a tie for 15th after beginning her round tied for 40th.

Gray, Coon Rapids, Minn., made the turn at even par after two birdies and two bogeys on the front nine, and continued to play well on the final nine holes carding a birdie and two more bogeys to finish at 1-over.

“Overall, as a team we struggled a bit today,” Concordia head Coach Matt Higgins said. “Rachel [Gray] had a great round; she was very solid and very strong mentally today.”

Higgins said his squad should be more relaxed and certainly accustomed to the golf course heading into the final day.

“We’ve got nothing to lose; we need to put four rounds together like we know we can,” he said. “I think we put a little extra pressure on ourselves coming into this because this is our home course. We need to go out and have fun and let our talent and abilities take over.”

Minnesota State University finished at 318 Monday to move into eighth place going into Tuesday’s final round and were once again led by junior Tabitha Kunst and sophomore Kanyapak Sethasompobe, who shot a 4-over 76 and 5-over 77, respectively, to sit tied for 18th at 157.

The final round concludes Tuesday at Tartan Park Golf Course in Lake Elmo, Minn.
