Burnham Wins Again at MN Junior Girls' State Championship

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Sarah Burnham opened the 69th Minnesota Junior Girls’ State Championship at Tartan Park Golf Course with a 5-under par 67 Monday before shooting a 3-over par 75 Tuesday to win the championship by six strokes at 142.

Class AA state individual champion Maggie Heggerston improved on her fifth-place finish from a year ago as she carded a final round 1-over par 73 to finish second at 148, while Stephanie Herzog finished third at 5-over par 149.

Burnham, Wayzata, Minn., had one birdie with two bogeys during the opening nine holes Tuesday to make the turn at 1-over par 37.

With three bogeys over the next seven holes, Burnham dropped to 4-over for the day but she responded with a birdie on the 17th and finished the day with a 75, but 2-under par 142 for the championship, adding another title to her already impressive 2014 season.

Heggerston, Pequot Lakes, Minn., started and finished the front nine Tuesday with bogeys to card a 2-over par 38, but got things going on the final nine holes.

Despite two bogeys early on, Heggerston rallied with a birdie on the 12th hole and two more to close out the day to finish the tournament in second place at 4-over par 148.

Herzog, Red Wing, Minn., carded a birdie and one bogey on the front nine Tuesday to make the turn at even par 36, but over the final nine holes made four bogeys with just one birdie to finish the day at 3-over par 75.

Anni Heck, Eagan, Minn., finished in fourth place Tuesday at 6-over par 150, while Amanda Bigger, Alexandria, Minn., finished alone in fifth place at 9-over par 153.
