Exsted; Mille Lacs Take Early Lead at A Boys State Tournament in Becker

  BECKER, Minn. – The Mille Lacs boys golf team jumped out to a commanding 20-stroke advantage Tuesday in the first round of the 2013 Minnesota State High School Class A Boys Golf Tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club.

Senior Grant Exsted gave Mille Lacs a boost by shooting a 4-under par 68, and in the process, leads individual competition by a stroke. Exsted finished 6th at the state tournament a year ago as Mille Lacs finished 7th in team competition.

Also leading the way for Mille Lacs was freshman Dain Schultz who carded a 4-over par 76 and currently stands tied for sixth in individual competition.  Schultz finished in eighth place last year as just an 8th grader. Freshman Korey Shimer shot a first round 82, while junior Matthew Perry contributed with an 84 for Mille Lacs.

Ortonville’s Jade Hasslen sits just one stroke behind Exsted in individual competition as Hasslen shot a 3-under par 69, tied for second. Junior Luke Johanson, Southwest Christian School, also carded a 3-under par 69.
