Herzog and Yoemans Lead Red Wing Girls to Section 1AA Title

  ROCHESTER, Minn. – Carding a final round team score of 314 Wednesday at Eastwood Golf Club, the Red Wing girls golf team cruised to a 25-stroke victory in the Section 1AA Championship to advance to the state tournament.

Sophomore Stephanie Herzog led the Wingers as she earned medalist honors shooting 3-over par 145, including an even par 71 on the final day Wednesday.

Red Wing also got help from eighth grader Sophie Yoemans, who finished second at the championship after shooting 9-over par 151.

Lake City High School finished second at 641 Wednesday getting a solid performance from Lidia Wallerich who finished third (76-82—158), and from Emily Schimbeno who finished fifth (76-84—160), as both players qualifed for the state tournament as individuals.

Lake City's Claire Gruber and Lexi Geolat also qualified as individuals, while Rochester Lourdes' Madeline Pagel earned a spot at the state tournament as well. 

The Minnesota Class AA State Tournament begins June 9th at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn.
