How They're Doing: Minnesotans on Pro Tour Money Lists -- April 22
April 22, 2024
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Fredrik Jacobsson shot a 7-under-par 65 at St. John's Golf & Country Club on Thursday in the second round of Pre-Qualifyiong for the Web.com Tour. He then made an eagle and two birdies in the first eight holes of the third round. That gave him a fat enough cushion that he could play the last 10 holes in 2 over and still win medalist honors by two shots.
Jacobsson ended up with a closing 71, which gave him a 54-hole total of 207 (9 under).
For anyone who might be wondering, this was not Fredrik Jacobson (one S in the last name, not two), the winner of one PGA Tour title and three European Tour events -- although both Fredriks are from Sweden.
There was a three-way tie for second at St. John's G&CC. Two Jacksonville residents -- U-Minn Woon and Franck Medale -- posted 209's in difficult conditions and so did Josh Brock of Wilmington, N.C.
The top 37 finishers and ties will advance to the First Stage of Web-com Q-School. It will begin Sept. 26 at various sites. The last of the three stages (four if you count pre-qualifying) will be contested Dec. 7-10 in Chandler, Ariz.
Among those advancing from St. Augustine was 2015 Minnesota State Open champion Andrew McCain, who also won the MGA Four-Ball Championship twice (2015, '16) -- with two different partners. He turned pro this summer. McCain shot 71-74-74--219, and made it through to the next stage with four strokes to spare.
