USGA Announces Tee Times for 43rd U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship

DETROIT LAKES -- Nick Myhre did his part. The co-medalist and No. 1 seed at this year's Pine to Palm tournament defeated the No. 32 seed, Ben Hauge, 3&2, on Friday and advanced to the Saturday morning Round of 16 at Detroit Country Club.
Some of the other top seeds didn't do as well. In fact, Myhre is the only one of the top five seeds still alive. Nos. 4 and 5, Dax Wallat and Bill Carlson, bowed out in the first round of matches on Thursday. On Friday, No. 2 Noal Lawson, the other co-medalist, along with Myhre, was dismissed, somewhat unceremoneously; he lost 5&4 to No. 31 Chris Swenson.
No. 3 Lucas Johnson is also gone. He was dispatched 4&2 by No. 35 Connor Holland.
Beyond Myhre, the highest seed left is No. 6 Grady Meyer, who will soon be a senior at the University of Minnesota. He beat Gopher recruit Mason Fiddle (No. 27) 5&4. His next opponent will also be a teammate, sophomore-to-be Thomas Longbella (No. 22). Longbella moved through to the Round of 16 with a 2&1 victory over No. 54 Jon Stecher.
There is one other Gopher still alive, Matt Rachey (No. 17), except that he's not really a Gopher anymore. He graduated this spring. Nevertheless, he is one of the 16 match-play survivors, thanks to a victory in extra holes over No. 54 Jon Stecher on Friday. His reward is a place opposite Myhre on Saturday morning in the third round.
