Rask Grabs Early Lead as First Round of Minnesota State Open is Underway at Bunker Hills

COON RAPIDS, Minn. – Clayton Rask narrowly missed winning his second Minnesota State Open Championship a year ago, losing in a playoff to Minnesota Gopher Jon DuToit.

Rask has things going well again Friday as he is the early leader in the clubhouse after carding a 4-under par 68 during the opening round of the 96th Minnesota State Open at Bunker Hills Golf Club.

Rask, Riverwood National Golf Club, teed off on the 10th hole to start his round Friday and ran into trouble early, making back-to-back bogeys on the first two holes to fall to 2-over.

He rebounded with a pair of birdies at the 14th and 15th to make the turn at even par 36 and rolled in two more on the third and fourth holes to drop to 2-under.

Despite a bogey on the fifth hole, Rask finished his first round extremely well with a birdie on the seventh and an eagle on the 560-yard, par-5 ninth hole to shoot 68.

Ryan Peterson (Interlachen Country Club), Dylan Gergen (Mendakota Country Club), Trinity Dimich (Purple Hawk Country Club) and Josh Angrimson (Chisago Lakes Golf Course) are currently tied for second place at 3-under par 69.

Brent Snyder, Troy Burne Golf Club, and Dylan Baker, Chaska Town Course, are tied for sixth at the moment as both players carded at 2-under par 70.

Two players are tied for eighth at 71, while seven players are currently tied for 11th at even par 72.
