Smith Shoots 67 to Qualify for Minnesota State Open, Nine Others Advance

  JORDAN, Minn. – George Smith carded a 5-under par 67 Tuesday at Ridges at Sand Creek to earn medalist honors as well as a spot in the 2015 Minnesota State Open.

A field of 46 golfers comprised the field for the qualifier with 10 players earning a spot in this year’s tournament, which will be played July 24-26 at Mendakota Country Club in Mendota Heights, Minn.

Smith, 2nd Swing, will be joined at the championship by Trevor Anker, Legends Club, who fired a 1-under par 71 to qualify.

Alec Aunan (LeSeuer Country Club), Matthew Newman (Mankato Golf Club), Riley Gannon (Bearpath Golf and Country Club) and Mike Fielder (Valleywood Golf Course) each qualified by shooting an even par 72, while five others earned a spot in the tournament by finishing at 1-over par 73.

Jack Kummings, Chaska Town Course, and Chris Captain, Rochester Golf and Country Club, finished as first and second alternates, respectively.
