SARTELL -- Staples-Motley sophomore Emily Israelson started the final round of the Section 6AA Girls Tournament on Tuesday tied with Maggie Heggerston of Pequot Lakes for the lead, and she ended it one stroke ahead of Becker senior Kourtney Williams, as she earned medalist honors at Blackberry Ridge.

Just as she had done in the first round on Monday, Israelson matched the low round of the day. This time, she shot a 75, which gave her a 36-hole tab of 152.

Williams, who finished second in the Class AA portion of the 2011 state tournament, also shot 75 on her way to 153.

As a result, Israelson, who tied for ninth last year, and Williams -- a senior who will be starting at the University of Wyoming in the fall -- will be making return trips to the state championships. Heggerston will be there, too. She posted a 78 on Tuesday and ended up third with a 155.

The Class AA part of the state tournament will begin next Tuesday at The Ridges @ Sand Creek, near Jordan.

St. Cloud Cathedral will also be there, after winning the 6AA team title with a cumulative 682. Pequot Lakes finished second at 689, and Rocori third, another stroke behind at 690.

The top five players from each section who are not on the winning team advance.
