2024 Ms. and Mr. Minnesota Golf
May 3, 2024
SARTELL -- Nick Forsberg is the highest-ranked player, at No. 5, according to the MGA, in the Section 6AA Tournament this week at Blackberry Ridge GC. Michael Strain is next, at No. 11.
On Monday, Forsberg and Strain lived up -- or more accurately, played up -- to their rankings, as Forsberg shot a 3-under-par 69 and Strain a 72, which gave them the top two spots in the individual standings after one round, and it also helped Staples-Motley post a combined 291. That gives the Cardinals a 34-stroke advantage going into Tuesday's second -- and final -- round.
St. Cloud Cathedral and Melrose are tied for second at 325.
Blake Loxtrercamp of Melrose is one back of Strain with a 73, and Staples-Motley's Trent Hagenson is at 74 after Day 1.
The winning team advances to the state tournament (June 12-13 at Ridges @ Sand Creek), along with the low five individuals not on the winning team.
